The United Arab Emirates has announced the launch of a groundbreaking US$1 billion “AI for Development” initiative, aimed at accelerating digital transformation and advancing artificial intelligence infrastructure across the African continent.
Unveiled during a high-level forum in Dubai, the initiative underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering global innovation partnerships and ensuring that the benefits of AI and advanced technologies extend beyond borders. The program will focus on supporting digital infrastructure, talent development, and AI-driven solutions in key sectors such as healthcare, education, energy, and finance.
The “AI for Development” fund is designed to empower emerging economies by building sustainable digital ecosystems, promoting AI adoption in public services, and supporting startups developing socially impactful technologies.
His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized that the initiative reflects the UAE’s vision to position AI as a force for inclusive global growth.
“Africa’s young population and dynamic economies make it a key partner in the global AI journey. Through this initiative, we aim to ensure that innovation becomes a bridge to prosperity for all,” he stated.
This announcement reaffirms the UAE’s leadership in global technology and investment, aligning with its broader strategy to leverage AI for sustainable development and international collaboration.
